Sarasota Memorial’s Auxiliary is helping to develop the next generation of physicians, nurses and clinicians!
The hospital’s volunteer organization recently awarded college scholarships to four outstanding local high school students who plan to pursue careers in health care. Each student will receive $10,000 over four years. Named after former Sarasota Memorial CEO G. Duncan Finlay, MD, the scholarships have been generously funded by the Auxiliary for more than two decades.
Pictured, left to right: Rose Panitch, second vice president of the Auxiliary; Pine View High School senior Bradley Arnold; Venice High School senior Francis Holcomb; Booker High School senior Mekala Jones; Auxiliary President Bob du Treil; Dr. Finlay; Sarasota High School senior Ariel Probus; and Ginny Rosenhaus of the Auxiliary.
Bradley plans to attend the University of Florida and pursue medicine as his career. Several of his family members have dealt with cancer and he found the physicians to be his inspiration. His ultimate goal is to become a diagnostic radiologist.
Francis plans to attend the University of Florida. His dream is to become an orthopedic surgeon to help alleviate patients’ suffering and lack of mobility.
Mekala plans to attend Florida State University. Her passion is to become a pediatric registered nurse, as she discovered great joy while working with children.
Ariel has been accepted to Florida Gulf Coast University. For years, her goal has been to become either an occupational or speech therapist.
Congratulations to all the students and thank you to our volunteers for helping to educate and support future leaders in health care!
