Genitourinary Cancer Care Team

Each patient in Sarasota Memorial Cancer Institute’s comprehensive cancer program is cared for by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists to leverage the full extent of our providers’ expertise in diagnosing and treating cancers. Our board-certified physicians offer a personalized, patient-centered approach that provides the most effective, least invasive treatments available to address each patient’s physical, emotional and psychosocial needs for more holistic care.

Genitourinary cancer care teams can include urologic surgeons specialized in minimally invasive/robotic procedures for genitourologic disorders, medical and radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, oncology-certified nurses, an oncology-certified social worker, patient navigators, palliative medicine specialists, genetic counselors, rehab therapists and others.

Surgical Team Members

Sarasota Memorial’s surgical oncology team features American Board of Urology-certified urologists who provide a full range of treatments for prostate, bladder and kidney cancers, as well as other genitourologic diseases and conditions. All Fellows of the American College of Surgeons, the physicians have expertise in both medical and surgical interventions. 

Urologist Kenneth Bregg, MDDr. Kenneth Bregg, MD, is a longtime local urologist, having practiced in the Sarasota area for more than 26 years. Dr. Bregg specializes in urologic cancer-related erectile dysfunction and incontinence, as well as benign prostatic enlargement. 

Urologist Robert CareyDr. Robert Carey, MD, PhD, a Sarasota urologist for more than a decade, specializes in Da Vinci Robot-assisted surgeries, including minimally invasive prostatectomy and nephrectomy. As one of the founders of robotic surgery at Sarasota Memorial, he is actively involved in research and has been widely published in variety of medical journals and other publications. 

Urologist Daniel Kaplon, MDHaving practiced in the Sarasota-Bradenton area for nearly a decade, Dr. Daniel M. Kaplon, MD, specializes in Da Vinci Robot-assisted surgical approaches for urologic cancers, with extensive experience in minimally invasive prostatectomy, nephrectomy and reconstructive surgery. He has presented research and lectured, both locally and nationally, on urologic conditions.
