Patients at Sarasota Memorial and throughout Florida have the right to be treated with dignity, respect, privacy, and in a safe environment free from abuse. They are entitled to clear information about their diagnosis, treatment options, and costs, and may accept or refuse care, designate a support person, and create advance directives. Patients have access to emergency treatment regardless of ability to pay, confidential medical records, and a process to voice grievances without fear of retaliation. In return, patients are responsible for providing accurate health information, asking questions to understand their care, following the agreed-upon treatment plan, keeping appointments, respecting facility rules, and fulfilling financial obligations related to their care. For a full list of agencies, see Patient Bill of Rights.
Healthcare-Related Scams
Sarasota Memorial has layers of security built into our systems to help prevent unauthorized access to patient information. Unfortunately, hospitals are seeing an increase in cyberattacks on insurance providers and third-company companies processing medical information on behalf of patients. Spoofers and scammers use stolen data from industry breaches to impersonate physician practices and other medical providers and trick patients into sharing personal information.
