Gastrointestinal Cancer Care Team

Each patient in Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s integrated cancer program is custom matched with a team of specialists to leverage the full extent of the area’s leading cancer experts’ experience and expertise in diagnosing and treating even the most challenging cancers. At the center of this multi-disciplinary team-based approach is the patient: Care teams and care plans are specifically tailored to each patient’s needs, goals and case details.

Led by Gastrointestinal Cancer Specialty Program Medical Director Dr. Kenneth Meredith, SMH’s gastrointestinal (GI) cancer care teams include gastroenterologists, endoscopists, diagnostic and interventional radiologists, pathologists, GI oncology surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, an oncology nurse navigator, and an oncology-certified social worker. Our board-certified physicians offer a personalized approach to the safest, least invasive and most effective treatments available.

Dr. Meredith is an internationally recognized robotic gastrointestinal oncology surgeon, who has pioneered a number of minimally invasive and robotic techniques for treating gastrointestinal cancers. Specializing in surgical treatments for hepatopancreaticobiliary, esophageal, and other GI malignancies, he is a global volume leader in robotic esophageal and pancreatic cancer surgeries.

As medical director of our GI specialty program, Dr. Meredith works with primary care physicians, gastroenterologists, and oncologists throughout the region and the nation to ensure SMH’s patients have access to the most innovative and successful treatments available.
