Surface Guided Radiation Safer for Breast Cancer Patients

Radiation can be a powerful treatment for breast cancer, but because it is so close to the heart and lungs, radiation oncology specialists at Sarasota Memorial’s Radiation Oncology Center are using advanced technology to make sure the treatment does not lead to other health issues in the future. Called Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), the technology can be used to treat nearly every cancer type, but is especially useful when treating patients with breast cancer.

Forbes Names SMH Among America’s 'Best Employers for Women'

Sarasota Memorial has been named among America’s best employers for women, a designation given to less than 1% of large companies nationwide. Forbes, in partnership with research company Statista, developed a list of the 300 Best Employers for Women after independent surveys of 50,000 Americans, including 30,000 women, working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees.

SMH Earns Multiple Spots on U.S. News’ 'Best Hospitals' List

Sarasota Memorial earned top marks in U.S. News' 2021-2022 “Best Hospitals” list. This year’s rankings place SMH among the 50 “Best Hospitals” in America for specialized rehabilitation for people recovering from serious injuries and debilitating diseases. SMH also achieved “high performer” ratings in 15 procedures and conditions common among Medicare patients.
