First Physicians Group Expands Surgical Oncology Program

SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota Memorial is welcoming a new breast cancer surgeon to the health system’s First Physicians Group (FPG) network.

Sarah Kimball, MD, a board-certified surgeon, fellowship trained in breast oncology, is now accepting new patients at FPG’s Breast Surgical Oncology Practice. Together with Breast Oncology Program Director and surgeon Russell Novak, MD, they provide comprehensive surgical treatment for patients with breast cancer.

Prior to joining FPG, Dr. Kimball worked as a surgical oncologist at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. She also served as an assistant professor of surgery at Texas A&M School of Medicine. Dr. Kimball joins a growing team of surgical oncologists prepared to serve the needs of the community at the developing Sarasota Memorial Cancer Institute. 

Dr. Kimball earned her medical degree from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii. She went on to complete her general surgery residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington where she was chief resident her final year. She also completed a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the teaching hospital at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kimball’s specialties include treatment of benign breast disease, high-risk breast lesions, breast conservation (lumpectomy), mastectomy, and oncoplastic breast surgery.
