Paying Your Patient Bill
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) and First Physicians Group (FPG) have transitioned to a new, consolidated billing system and MyChart patient portal.
For your convenience, we offer several payment options.
Pay By Phone, Mail or In Person: Follow the instructions on the statement mailed to you or click here for more options.
Pay Online: Using the guide below, click on the statement that matches yours to make a payment to the appropriate account.
Services provided before Oct. 3 will appear on previous (legacy) statements.
Note: As we close out our previous/legacy billing statements, you may temporarily receive two different types of statements - this is expected during the current transition period and does not mean you've been billed twice.

Frequently Asked Questions
For services provided on or after Oct. 3, you'll notice a new statement design that reflects Sarasota Memorial's transition to Epic's MyChart patient portal and billing system. The new statement consolidates Sarasota Memorial and First Physicians Group billing charges.
While we phase out statements from our previous billing systems, there are several payment options available depending on when and where you received care.
We have included statement images on our Payment Options webpage to help you understand whether you received a previous (legacy) statement or our new MyChart billing statement.
Compare your billing statement to the statement images on our payment page.
- If your statement matches a legacy statement, click on that image to link and follow the prompts to pay your bill. Helpful tip: If you are paying a First Physicians Group bill, click on the statement with First Physicians Group in the logo.
- If your statement matches the new MyChart Statement, click on that image and follow the prompts to pay your bill. Helpful tip: Our new statements (for services received on or after Oct. 3) have a MyChart QR code.
Possibly. During our transition:
- Services received before Oct. 3 will remain in our legacy billing system.
- Services received on or after Oct. 3 will be billed through MyChart.
If you have balances in both systems, you will receive two different statements and will need to make payments through both payment options until all previous (legacy) balances have been addressed.
Before Oct. 3, SMH services and FPG services were billed through separate systems. During this transition, you may receive separate previous/legacy statements and will need to pay each bill individually through the respective payment portal.
No. Once your legacy bills have been addressed, charges for SMH and FPG services received after Oct. 3 will be consolidated into a single statement, making it easier to review and manage your healthcare bills through MyChart.
All SMH and FPG bills may be paid online at: www.smh.com/paymentoptions.
On that webpage, you will find payment links for the bill you want to pay. During a temporary transition period, there will be three options:
- New SMH and FPG charges (for services received on or after Oct. 3) can be paid through MyChart, SMH's new patient portal and bill pay system.
- Previous SMH balances (for services received before Oct. 3) must be paid through the link provided to SMH's legacy bill pay system.
- Previous FPG balances (for services received before Oct. 3) must be paid through the link provided to FPG's legacy bill pay system.
Once all legacy accounts have been addressed, SMH and FPG balances will be combined in a single statement through MyChart.
No, guest pay options are available through the MyChart billing portal. But we encourage you to create a MyChart account. It is the easiest way to keep track of your health information and view, manage and pay your bills. If you don't already have a MyChart account, you can create one by following the instructions on your statement or by visiting www.smh.com and clicking the MyChart button on the homepage.
No. Balances for services received before October 3 will remain in the previous/legacy billing systems until they have been paid or otherwise resolved.
No problem. Simply return to the payment page and select the payment option that matches your billing statement. The statement images are designed to help you quickly identify the correct payment portal. You will receive an error message if you try to make a payment on the wrong portal link.
We have transitioned to Epic, one of the most widely used electronic health record systems in the nation, to improve your experience. Epic's MyChart patient portal will provide you:
- One convenient MyChart account to manage your healthcare information.
- A simplified billing experience with eligible SMH and FPG charges combined on a single statement.
- Easier online bill payment and account management.
- Improved access to your medical records, appointments, and billing information in one secure location.
