Collaborative Approach to Cancer Care
Whether it’s genetic testing to learn about your risk factors, advanced imaging to detect tumors at their earliest stages, innovative surgical tools to remove difficult cancers, or access to advanced research afforded by our Cancer Research team, Sarasota Memorial provides a level of care and support found only at the nation’s best cancer centers.
We also provide an integrated supportive care program just for cancer patients, to help you during and after treatment. And for visitors to Sarasota, we can coordinate care with your hometown physician during your stay.
Cancers We Treat
Sarasota Memorial's comprehensive Cancer Care program offers screening, diagnostics, and treatment for a broad range of cancers, including:
- Gastrointestinal Cancer (including stomach cancer, colon cancer, colorectal cancer, gallbladder cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, small intestine cancer and anal cancer)
- Breast Cancer
- Lung Cancer (thoracic cancer)
- Gynecological Cancer
- Urological Cancer
Cancer Care Teams
Each patient in the Sarasota Memorial Cancer Care program is matched with a multi-disciplinary team of specialists, including medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists who specialize in endoscopic ultrasound and complex procedures, gastrointestinal oncology surgeons, and interventional radiologists. Led by Cancer Care Services Medical Director Dr. Richard Brown, our cancer care teams also include cancer-certified nurses, therapists, social workers, navigators, researchers, genetic counselors, rehab therapists and others to address physical and emotional needs. For more information on cancer care teams, click here.
Because every tumor is unique, the teams meet weekly to discuss new cases — and review challenging ones. During these regular tumor-review meetings, medical, radiation and surgical oncologists collaborate with subspecialists in breast cancer, thoracic, gynecological, gastrointestinal and urological cancers to share the latest research, therapies and clinical trials, and work collaboratively to develop the most effective treatment for each cancer patient.
Accreditation with Commendation
The Sarasota Memorial Cancer Institute carries the nation's highest level of accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). It has maintained continuous CoC accreditation since 1988.
