SARASOTA, Fla. – (Sept. 5, 2018) – Sarasota Memorial Health Care System welcomed two new primary-care physicians to the health system’s First Physicians Group (FPG) network and community in August.
Andrzej Kucharski, MD, a board-certified Family Medicine physician with fellowship training in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, is accepting new patients at FPG’s family medicine practice at Heritage Harbour in east Manatee County. Together with Family Medicine specialists Karen M. Bigby, MD, and Andrew E. Burg, MD, Dr. Kucharski provides comprehensive medical care for families and individuals of all ages.
Bryce Somer, MD, who specializes in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, is accepting new patients at the FPG Internal Medicine/Pediatrics practice at University Parkway. He joins Drs. Carlos Rodriguez, Enas Sallam, Nicholas Sutera and Clarissa Zafirov in providing a full spectrum of family medicine, from pediatrics and adult care to geriatrics.
Sarasota Memorial recruited both Dr. Kucharski and Dr. Somer to the area to help fill the gaps caused by the regional shortage of primary care physicians.
Dr. Kucharski has worked as a primary care physician, treating chronic and acute medical conditions in public health, urgent care and family practice settings for nearly 20 years. He came to Sarasota in 2009 from Nazareth Family Practice in Nazareth, Penn., and spent the last 10 years caring for patients at the Florida Department of Health – Sarasota County, and Sarasota Memorial’s urgent care centers. He previously practiced as an internist in Keystone Heights, Fla., and served as senior medical officer in the emergency room and medical ward of Dora N’ginza Hospital in Port Elizabeth, Republic of South Africa. He earned his medical degree at the Medical University of Lublin, Poland, in 1986, underwent additional training in dermatology and internal medicine in Poland from 1990 to 1994; he completed his Family Practice Residency at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, Penn., in 2000. A member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Kucharski received Sarasota Memorial’s Physician Excel Award in 2011. Dr. Somer earned his medical degree in 2014 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics this year. His practice focus includes nutrition, exercise and health sciences. In addition to other community services, Dr. Somer has participated in two medical mission trips to Haiti. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians and American Academy of Pediatrics. His practice is located at 5350 University Parkway, Suite 101.
