SMH NICU Celebrates Kangaroo Care Awareness Day

Monday, May 15, 2023

The only Level III intensive care nursery in the area, the NICU at SMH-Sarasota has cared for critically ill newborns and the smallest premature babies for more than 30 years. Among those celebrating Kangaroo Care Awareness Day at SMH today are Katie and Stephen, new parents to premature twins Hunter and Hadley, who were born at just 28 weeks. The couple from Palmetto are using and seeing the benefits of skin-to-skin contact as they partner with the SMH team caring for their children in the NICU.
