Exceptional Care for Children, Close to Home
Sarasota Memorial and All Children's Hospital, a member of the Johns Hopkins Health System, have collaborated to provide exceptional care for children, close to home.
In our 26-bed Pediatric Unit, children receive 24-hour care and monitoring by board-certified pediatric hospitalists – specialty physicians trained in infant, child and adolescent medicine. Our team of pediatric registered nurses – the only nursing staff in the region recognized with the nation's highest honor for nursing excellence – will be with you during every step of your child's care. Parents are an important member of our health care team and our nurses work closely with parents, your child's primary care pediatrian and All Children's specialists to provide the clinical and emotional care your child needs during his or her hospital stay.
A SPECIAL GIFT:
THE MUSIC THERAPY ROOM

No one would mistake rocker Brian Johnson for Santa Claus, but the lead singer of AC/DC delivered an early Christmas gift for children staying in Sarasota Memorial – the new Brian Johnson Music Therapy Room, dedicated Dec. 22, 2008. The room – equipped with a drum kit, guitars, electronic keyboard and computer outfitted with music recording software – was a gift from the John Entwistle Foundation, a group founded in honor of the late bass player for The Who. A recognized field of medicine, music therapy helps children unwind, relax and recover more quickly. Learn more...
Child/Family Friendly Features
With whimsical illustrations, an inviting play station and the new Brian Johnson Music Therapy Room, our Pediatric Unit is specially designed to help children feel safe, ease their anxiety and make their hospital stay as comfortable as possible.
Chock full of toys, games, puzzles and video games, our play station is a safe place where no medical tests or procedures are performed. From toddlers to teens, we offer a variety of toys, arts & crafts, activities for them to choose from, or they can choose an instrument to make up songs with our music therapist. All essential care is provided in special treatment rooms, so children can associate their hospital room with relaxation and recovery.
Parenting Partners
At Sarasota Memorial, we do not consider parents visitors, but rather active partners on their child's care team. We encourage parents and guardians to stay overnight with their children and order meals from our room service menu for themselves and other visitors. We offer gourmet menus for our guests and special menu items to appeal to children’s tastes, and complimentary meals for breastfeeding moms. Our relaxed visiting hours allow grandparents and special friends to visit when it's convenient or helpful for you and your child.
Safe & Secure Environment
Our Pediatric Unit offers a secure environment with restricted access to ensure the safety of your child. Our security procedures include an identification bracelet with an electronic sensor for all children. If the bracelet is cut or a child gets too close to the unit entrance, an alarm will sound.
