Exceptional Care, Close to Home
Sarasota Memorial and All Children's Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine, have collaborated to provide exceptional care for children, close to home.
In our 28-bed Pediatric Unit, children receive 24-hour care and monitoring by board-certified pediatric hospitalists – specialty physicians trained in infant, child and adolescent medicine.
Our team of pediatric registered nurses – the only nursing staff in the region recognized with Magnet status, the nation's highest honor in nursing – will help you through every step of your child's care.
Our child life specialist – a master's trained healthcare professional with advanced certification in child development – works closely with parents, the pediatric team and your child's primary care pediatrician to help ease children's fears and make them feel safe and comfortable during their hospital stay.
Family Centered Care
At Sarasota Memorial, we do not consider parents visitors, but rather active partners on their child's care team. We encourage parents and guardians to stay overnight with their children. We offer families the chance to relax and take a break in our family alcove which offers seating, snacks and drinks, a TV, a fridge to keep food, and a microwave. We offer special menu items to appeal to children’s tastes, and complimentary meals for breastfeeding moms. Our relaxed visiting hours and spacious rooms allow grandparents and special friends to visit when it's convenient or helpful for you and your child.
From its kid friendly decor, inviting playrooom with a colorful saltwater aquarium and cubbies brimming with toys and games, to adorable pet therapists and a music therapy center equipped by a famed rock star, our Pediatric Unit is designed to help children relax and have a little fun during their hospital stay.
Thanks to community donors, our play areas are continually stocked with toys, arts and crafts and video games. Children are able to create, play and explore throughout their hospital stay. All of the children's rooms and play areas are “safe areas,” where they can relax knowing nothing worrisome will happen there.
All essential care is provided in a special treatment room equipped with all the medical supplies needed for your child’s care. Our treatment room is also equipped with a TV, I-spy light-up ceiling tile, and toys/activities to provide a welcome distraction during medical procedures.
Pediatrics offers a Pet Therapy Program every week to help decrease children and families stress and anxieties during hospitalization. Not only do the children love when they come to visit, but families and staff share in the fun as well.
The Music Therapy Center
Pediatric patients enjoy rock-star treatment in Sarasota Memorial’s Pediatric Unit, thanks to the generosity of Brian Johnson, lead singer of AC/DC, and his wife Brenda. The room and musical equipment – including drums, guitars and keyboard – were donated by the Johnsons with support from the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation to help reduce children's anxiety during a hospital stay.
Safe & Secure Environment
Our Pediatric Unit is a locked unit which offers a secure environment with restricted access to ensure the safety of your child. All guardians receive a blue bracelet for throughout your child’s hospital stay, and visitors receive a visitor badge that they wear during their visit.
We are incredibly grateful for our community's involvement with and generosity toward our unit! If you are interested in making a donation, please note that we are only able to accept new items. Items should be latex free and craft items should be non-toxic. We are unable to accept used toys, used books, used stuffed animals/beanie babies, items in giftwrap, and food items.
