Veteran Internal Medicine Doctor Joins First Physicians Group

SARASOTA, Fla. – (Sept. 28, 2017) – Earlier this month, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System welcomed a veteran Internal Medicine specialist to its First Physicians Group (FPG) network and community. 

With more than 30 years experience, Jeffrey Humbarger, MD, joined the FPG Internal Medicine practice on Sept. 11, providing a full spectrum of adult and geriatric care. He joins Drs. Lalita Bhamidipati, Joseph Ferrari, Elizabeth Jungst, Sherri Sanders and Maria Velasco-Ferrari in FPG’s Internal Medicine practice, located at 1921 Waldemere St., Suite 405. Dr. Humbarger relocated to Sarasota from Boca Grande, Fla., where he spent the last six years as physician and three years as medical director of the Boca Grande Health Clinic. From 1996-2011, he served as consultant in Executive and International Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. Before moving to Florida, he spent more than 10 years as an internist with Alvarado Medical Group, served as medical director of skilled nursing and home health facilities, and as a practicing physician at Alvarado Hospital and San Diego Rehabilitation Institute. 

He earned his medical degree in 1982 at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, and completed his Internal Medicine residency and served as chief resident at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with additional qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. 

Today, in addition to his practice, he serves as a preceptor for students in the University of South Florida’s nurse practitioner program. His research and clinical focus includes fractures and rehabilitation in the elderly, early diagnosis of cardiac disease, and environmental risks associated with the Zika virus, red tide and other marine-related illnesses and injuries. He has also participated in medical mission trips.
