Sarasota Memorial Hospital Named Among Newsweek’s “Best-in-State” Hospitals

Wednesday, October 22, 2025

SARASOTA (Oct. 22, 2025) – Sarasota Memorial Hospital was named among the nation’s leading hospitals in Newsweek’s annual “Best-in-State” hospital rankings released today.

For the third year in a row, SMH-Sarasota was the only hospital in southwest Florida to make the list, ranking #6 out of 26 Florida hospitals on the 2025 list. This year's rankings recognizes 700 facilities from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

“Managing a health crisis can be daunting—and with over 700 hospitals in the U.S. at risk of closure, knowing where to turn for the best care close to home is more important than ever, Nancy Cooper, Global Editor in Chief for Newsweek, wrote in today’s report. “We hope this list proves valuable as you make informed health care choices for yourself and your loved ones.”

Newsweek compiles its annual America’s Best-In-State Hospitals list in collaboration with global market research and consumer data company Statista Inc. Each state’s top hospitals are ranked based on clinical and quality performance data, including low mortality, complication and readmission rates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services CMS, as well as surveys from the American Hospital Association, HCAHPS patient experience, and PROMs (patient-reported outcome measures).Sarasota Memorial Health Care System CEO David Verinder.

Sarasota Memorial’s ranking comes on top of a growing list of national accolades, including multiple “Best Hospital” rankings and ratings from U.S. News & World Report, continuous 5-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Magnet designation for 20 consecutive years, and repeated recognition on Newsweek’s list of the “World’s Best Hospitals” to name a few.

“We’re incredibly proud of the outstanding team at Sarasota Memorial,” said Sarasota Memorial Health Care System CEO David Verinder. “Every day, our physicians and staff go above and beyond to provide exceptional care. These awards reflect their unwavering dedication to quality, safety, and the well-being of our patients and community.”
