About 250,000 people are diagnosed each year with cancer of the gastrointestinal system, including cancers of the esophagus, pancreas, gallbladder, liver, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon) and rectum. Sarasota Memorial is one of few medical centers in the United States with a multidisciplinary cancer team experienced at performing complex and minimally invasive surgery for gastrointestinal cancers and conditions.
Our board-certified physicians offer a personalized approach to the safest, least invasive and most effective treatments available. Our program is led by Kenneth Meredith, MD, an internationally recognized robotic gastrointestinal oncology surgeon who has pioneered a number of minimally invasive and robotic techniques for treating gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Meredith specializes in gastrointestinal operations that include hepatopancreaticobiliary, esophageal, and other foregut GI malignancies. He has performed more robotic esophageal surgeries than anyone else in the world and ranks among the highest volume robotic surgeons for pancreatic cancer.
As medical director of our Gastrointestinal Cancer Specialty Program, Dr. Meredith works with primary care physicians, gastroenterologists, and oncologists throughout the region and nation to ensure patients have access to the most innovative and successful treatments available.
