SARASOTA, Fla. (Sept. 10, 2018) — Sarasota Memorial Health Care System recently welcomed two new specialty physicians to the health system’s First Physicians Group (FPG) network: psychiatrist Jason Lorenzen, MD, who trained at SMH while in medical school, and physiatrist Neenu Cherian, MD.
Dr. Lorenzen earned his medical degree from Florida State University in 2013, which included rotations at Sarasota Memorial Hospital while he was a third- and fourth-year medical student. He went on to complete residency training in general and adult psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, Colo., and the Mental Health Center of Denver in June 2018.
Dr. Lorenzen returned to Sarasota in August to join FPG’s team of psychiatrists caring for patients with mental health and addiction disorders at SMH’s Bayside Center for Behavioral Health.
Dr. Cherian, a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, joined FPG this month, providing inpatient rehabilitation care for people recovering from brain and spinal-cord injuries, stroke and other neurological, orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions. She joins FPG physiatrists Alexander J. Bajorek, MD, and Aurora Wong, MD, who serves as medical director of SMH Rehabilitation Services, based in the Rehabilitation Pavilion.
Dr. Cherian came to Sarasota from the Case Western Reserve University-MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute, in Cleveland, Ohio, where she completed a fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2017 and spent the past year providing inpatient and outpatient care and serving as a clinical instructor/faculty member at the university. She earned her medical degree in 2013 at Ross University School of Medicine on Dominica, West Indies, and worked as a research assistant with Emory University’s School of Medicine in Atlanta during her undergraduate studies. She is a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Both physicians were recruited to the area to help address the region’s shortage of specialty care physicians.
