Hurricane season is June 1 through Nov. 30. That means NOW is the time to make sure your home, family and pets will be safe in a tropical storm or hurricane.
If you or a loved one will need medical care in the event of a hurricane, pre-register for assistance before a hurricane by calling Sarasota County’s Call Center at 941-861-5000. You can register online by filling out this application.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital is a designated medical shelter for patients and other medically dependent Sarasota County residents who require a hospital setting during emergency situations and who are assigned to the hospital by the county. For people with special medical needs that do not require a hospital setting for care, there are other designated shelter facilities in the county.
Should a storm strike become imminent, the county will contact those who have pre-registered for transport to the appropriate shelter. For more information, visit the Sarasota County website.

All households should have an all-hazards kit with items such as a three-day supply of medications, cash, contact numbers, etc. It's wise to have a kit for your car as well, with blankets, rain gear, jumper cables and other emergency supplies. And don't forget to make plans and a kit for your pets!
