My husband and I were patients of Dr. Feinberg for 15 years. I worked for SMH for a couple of years and was very proud to work with such a great team of employees. My husband had survived prostate cancer, prior to our move to Sarasota. In 2005, my husband required 5 bypasses. Dr. King and the cardiac team saved my husband's life. Everyone was kind, efficient and caring. In 2007, my husband was found to have kidney cancer. Dr. Carey discovered Cap had a horseshoe kidney, which meant removal of the kidney was not possible. Dr. Carey did a radio frequency ablation, using the daVinci robot to burn off the tumor.
At this point, I had retired and decided to become an SMH volunteer to show my appreciation to all these hard working professionals. Every person I encounter at SMH is welcoming, friendly and helpful Last September, during a routine kidney scan, Dr. Carey found tumors on Cap's liver. A biopsy was conducted and the result was neuroendocrine tumors, secondary to the liver.....primary unknown.
At this point, we went to a hospital outside Florida. They found the primary NET to be in the small intestine. Cap had surgery to remove all visible tumors in the liver, gall bladder, appendix and 2 ft of small intestine. We spent 10 days on one of the gastro surgical floors and it couldn't compare to SMH!!!!
SMH has set an expectation level for us by which we compare all other caregivers.
My husband is swimming 30 laps (we are members of Healthplex), running & playing his beloved senior softball again. He is a fighter. We could never repay the love, care & help we have received at SMH! We brag about this hospital to everyone!!!!!
