Healthy Weight
A healthy weight is the weight your body naturally settles into when you consistently eat a nutritious diet, are physically active, and balance the calories you eat with the physical activity you do.
But weight is only one measure of your health. People who are thin, but don't exercise or eat nutritious foods aren't necessarily healthy just because they are thin. A person who is overweight according to body mass index (BMI) charts may be healthy if he or she eats a variety of healthy foods and exercises regularly.
How much you eat is not the only determinant of your weight. Your age, metabolism, genetics, and physical activity level also play an important role in your weight, health, and risk for disease. So it's important that you avoid comparing yourself to others and that you determine the lifestyle changes you need to make to maintain a healthy weight.
Patient Success Stories at Sarasota Memorial's Comprehensive
Bariatric and Weight Management Program
"I am so
thankful for the opportunity to start over with a healthy
lifestyle. In some ways I wish I would have done this years
ago. But, there are seasons in all of our lives and this is
my season! Thank you Sarasota Memorial and Dr. Fitzgerald
for caring enough about us to provide us with this life
changing surgery." Allison shares her Success Story!
"My reality was having to make the decision to
either live or die! My health was in trouble, my
self-esteem was the lowest it had ever been and I had
secluded myself from family, friends and the outside
world. I chose to live! Be happy and be healthy! Weight
loss surgery was absolutely the best decision I have ever
made!!!" Andrea
shares her Success Story!
"Since surgery I have been able to stop
taking all medications... My energy level has skyrocketed –
I now walk between 3 and 3 ½ miles daily. I’ve completed so
many projects around the house that I couldn’t do when I was
heavy, my wife doesn’t have a “honey-do” list left for me!" Larry shares his Success Story!
