Specialized Radiology Nursing

Radiology Nursing Unit

Nurses in the Radiology department at SMH play a vital supporting role throughout the entire department from Interventional Radiology, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, and Diagnostics.  The department has trained RN's that have a vast amount of nursing background and experience.  Each one of our nurses brings a wealth of knowledge that is important to the level of quality care and safe nursing practice, which is provided to all patients that enter the SMH Radiology Department.  Our nurses specialize in Radiology procedures and are trained in advanced care and treatment.

The Radiology team maintains a close working relationship with the radiologist and technologist, helping to coordinate patient care responsibilities and invasive procedures.  Our department has a nursing unit that will accommodate 18 patients.  If you are coming in for a short-stay invasive procedure, you will be admitted to the unit, have your pre-procedure work-up completed, then recover in the unit until time of discharge.  We have a state-of-the-art nursing facility for your pre and post procedure admit and recovery.  Some of the types of procedures where you will be admitted to the radiology nursing unit include: CT biopsy or drainage, Arteriogram, Percutaneous nephrostomy, Vertebroplasty, Mylogram, Lumbar puncture.  The length of stay post procedure varies but is generally 4-6 hours after which you will need another person to drive you home.

Our Radiology nurses are dedicated to providing an atmosphere that is kind, caring, and compassionate.  Our goal is to provide each customer with service that will meet your individual needs.  We are committed to treating you as the customer in such a manner that will maintain your respect, dignity, and providing you with comfort during your stay.
