The Radiology
Department at Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System(SMHCS) was one of
the first organizations in the country to use "Digital Imaging
Technology" to provide care for its patients. Digital imaging
refers to electronic capture, manipulation, and storage of Radiology
images. This technology has increased the quality of care for the
patient while reducing healthcare cost for all patients at SMHCS. We
have made a substantial investment in Radiology, and we have made a
commitment to keep our Radiology department a leader in the
industry.
Why Digital?
The SMHCS vision
requires the organization to be in constant pursuit of improving the
quality of care for patients. Digital imaging is a comprehensive
solution identified to keep Radiology at SMHCS as a leader in the
industry. Digital images can be stored indefinitely, thereby
allowing ease of access for the physician to track the patients
history. Images can be retrieved, evaluated, and stored continuously
without degradation in quality. Physicians can manipulate digital
images in ways never possible before with conventional film. This
allows for a more accurate diagnosis, faster than ever before.
Traditional couriers used to move film from location to location.
Today, these images are sent and received from location to location
at the speed of light. Referring physicians now have access to these
digital images from their homes, offices or on a computer here at
SMH.
Other
innovations . . .
The most recent
enhancement to round out the concept of completing the patient
encounter in a more timely manner is the Radiologist voice
recognition dictation system. With this system turnaround times for
the results of your Radiology exams have been drastically reduced.
The Radiologist now dictates their findings and at the click of a
button, can see instantly what they have dictated in document form.
If needed they can edit and then sign the report releasing it for
immediate distribution.
