The Orthopedic nursing unit provides acute orthopedic-skilled medical/surgical
nursing care. The unit is a 24 hour inpatient area that delivers nursing care
to acutely ill and injured adults and/or geriatric patients with orthopedic and
general medical /surgical disease entities.
The most common surgeries that come to our unit are total hip and knee replacements,
total shoulder replacements and other joints including elbow and ankle replacements
on occasion. We provide a two-hour interdisciplinary total joint replacement
class to patients prior to their surgery. Orthopedics performs a large number
of back surgeries, including spinal fusion, lumbar laminectomy, and cervical
fusion/laminectomy. We also receive a large number of hip fractures and other
minor orthopedic trauma patients.
Rehab services provides physical therapy to our patients and we have a satellite
gym located on the unit itself.
