The Outpatient Neuro Program has been designed as a comprehensive
program for patients that have one of many neurological disorders
(including stroke, parkinsons, guillan-barre and others). The program
has physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology,
social services and neuro-psychology services available under the
direction of a physiatrist (physical medicine and rehabilitation
physician). In addition to the therapy treatment, this program also
has a strong focus on education. Stroke management, diet, home set-up,
social and emotional needs and home exercise programs are provided
to patients and their families to help ready them for care at home.
The goal of the program is to assist patients in achieving their
optimal level of physical, cognitive, social and emotional independence
while adapting to their disability.
Discharge from the program is based on the completion of family training
and the achievement of the established goals, or once the maximum
level of independence has been reached by the patient. Community
Support Group information is offered and available for the patient
and family.
