                          What is Athens?
What is Athens?
Athens is an Access Management system for controlling secure access to web based services. One password will allow access to many journals and databases.

Who May Have an Athens Password?
All credentialed, emeritus  and currently employed medical staff are eligible for a password. Subscription to our library is possible for retired physicians and others. Please contact the library.

How do you get an Athens Password?
Fill out a password request form and submit it. You will receive a return email.

Where do I login to Athens on the library web page?
There are three ways to login to Athens:
1. Use the main Athens login on located at the top of the databases - directly over PubMed

2. Login to any one of the resources that are available through Athens, such as MDConsult, StatRef, etc. When you have logged into one of them, you have logged into all. This can be done by clicking on any of the main databases on the web page

3. When using our links to direct full text when in PubMed, you will be logging in using Athens.

Who administers the Athens database and who should you contact for help?
The Director of the Medical Library administers the Athens database.
Call 1730 or email patti-reynolds@smh.com

Is every Journal and Database accessible through Athens?
No, not at this time. However, at least 75% of our journals and databases are available through Athens and we are working with all of our vendors to finalize accessibility.

Is there a list of all resources that are available using Athens?
Yes. When you login using the link over PubMed on the main database page, you will be directed to a page which lists all of the resources available to you at that point.

We are working to make this better every day!
