Patients requiring care or treatment during defined hours
(Monday-Friday 6:30a.m.-2200 and Saturday and Sunday 8:00-5:00) may be
scheduled at the Day Treatment Center. Patients may be scheduled for
the following types of procedures in the outlined manner:
Day Treatment
Services are those services furnished by a hospital on the
hospital's premises utilizing beds or recliner chairs. Patients are
scheduled for:
Chemotherapy consists of administering cancer medication after determining that
the patient's condition is stable. This is done by drawing blood
samples and having them evaluated by our lab. Patients may receive
treatment in a chair room or a bed depending on patient's choice
or condition.
Biotherapy
consists of a range of intravinous medications given to
treat,among other things, Chrohn's Disease, Rheumatiod
arthritis, and loss of calcium from bone.
Blood Transfusions
includes all types of blood products including immunoglobulins.
May be administered in chair room or bed depending on time and
patient's choice. A blood clot is obtained on the unit or
doctor's office to ensure proper matching of the product to the
patient.
Hydration
consists of replenishing body fluids through intravenous
infusions. The need for fluids may be the result of excessive
vomiting, diarrhea or being unable to eat or drink after
chemotherapy.
Injections
shots given for a wide variety or reasons, among them iron
deficiency, chemotherapy, in addition to chemotherapy (procrit)
and multiple sclerosis.
Recovery From Radiology Procedures
monitoring vital signs, pulses and general condition following
things like arteriograms, stent placements,angioplasty and
discograms.
Bone Marrow Biopsies
samples of the bone marrow are removed on the unit by an Onologist
and sent for analysis. This is done with local anesthetic and the
patient is discharged shortly thereafter.
Lumbar Punctures
is performed at the bedside under most circumstances under local
anesthesia. Patient is kept flat in bed for approximately 6 hours,
depending on the doctor. Procedure consists of inserting a needle
into the spinal cord and withdrawing a specimen of spinal fluid.
Venous Access Procedures
range from peripheral lines that are usually single use, to
central catheters such as PICC lines, Triple lumen catheters, and
dialysis catheters.
Transesophageal Echocardiograms
patients have a peripheral access device (IV) started on the unit
and then are transferred to the CardioVascular Department for the
procedure. Usually conscious sedation is used and a device is
lowered by way of the throat to a spot near the heart and the data
obtained. After the procedure, the patient returns to the floor
and is recovered.
IV Antibiotics
given for various infections and time depends on the type and
number of medications to be administered. They can be given
through any number of access devices;ie: PICC lines,Mid lines,
Hickman catheters, of Peripheral lines.
