Medical Emergencies Require Immediate Attention
In Sarasota and the surrounding counties, dial 911 if you have a medical emergency that requires immediate lifesaving intervention. When calling 911, speak as calmly and clearly as you can. It is important that you do not delay treatment. Many medical conditions require that you receive treatment within a certain timeframe in order to prevent serious complications. Those time frames may be as short as within 1 hour from the time your symptoms start. IF IN DOUBT, SEEK TREATMENT or call 911 Immediately! Be prepared to give the following information to the 911 operator:
  • The problem
  • The location of the victim
  • The victim's name
  • What happened
  • Your name

Stay on the phone with the 911 operator until the operator tells you that you may hang up. 911 should be called when a patient is unresponsive, having chest pain, difficulty breathing, choking or has experienced major trauma. In addition, use 911 if you are physically unable to drive or be driven to the emergency room.
