Bernard Feinberg, MD: Recipient of SMH 2009 SMH Physician Lifetime Achievement Award
 Sarasota Memorial’s Medical Staff recently bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award on a local physician for contributions he has made to the hospital and community.
Bernard Feinberg, MD, was awarded the hospital’s “2009 Lifetime Achievement Award,” at the annual Medical Staff Meeting Oct. 27. Dr. Feinberg was selected by a committee of physician leaders after being recognized by his peers for providing outstanding leadership during a medical career spanning 30 years.
Among other things, he was recognized for his longstanding focus on medical quality assurance and the pivotal role he played in developing the hospital’s network of primary care physicians – First Physicians Group (FPG) – to help address a shortage of primary care physicians in Sarasota. In addition to caring for patients in his busy FPG practice – Associates in Internal Medicine – and serving as a volunteer physician at the hospital’s Community Medical Clinic, Dr. Feinberg served several years as the hospital’s Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff and provided valuable research and oversight on new protocols and procedures introduced in the hospital and its network of physician practices.
Born in Bronx, New York, Dr. Feinberg earned his medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed his internship and residency at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Hospital. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine. He joined the medical staff of Sarasota Memorial in 1991.
Dr. Feinberg closed his First Physicians Group practice in September. He plans to continue practicing medicine on a part-time basis where the community need is greatest, while spending more time with his wife and two adult children.
