Sarasota Memorial mourns the passing of longtime Sarasota County Public Hospital Board member William Lyons
Mr. Lyons, who represented the Northern District since 1998, served two terms as Chairman of the Board, in 2000-2001 and 2005-2006.
His death is an enormous loss, both for the organization and for the many people who knew him and counted him as a dear friend.
"Bill truly personified all of the outstanding qualities necessary to lead Sarasota Memorial -- keen business expertise, accountability, common sense and compassion," said Hospital Board Chairwoman Donna Barcomb.
A former owner and executive of an electronics firm in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mr. Lyons brought a great depth of experience to the Board, including many years of corporate administration, marketing and innovative implementation strategies. The organization was incredibly fortunate to benefit from his financial acumen and exceptional counsel during the past 10 years.
"Unfailingly generous with his time and wisdom, Bill was known for his immense pride in Sarasota Memorial, his wonderful sense of humor and his caring and empathy for patients and staff," said CEO Gwen MacKenzie. "We owe him a debt of gratitude for his hard work and dedication to excellence. Bill embodied the spirit of public service and the entire community is better for it."
A member of Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation's Corinthian Society, Mr. Lyons will be greatly missed and remembered for his outstanding leadership and support of top-quality health care. We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
