Nursing Orientation at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System begins the day following housewide orientation, scheduled every other week. Appropriate staff are directed to attend either one or both days (Travelers and per Diem nurses typically do not attend day 2). In this setting, new nurses are able to meet our Chief Nursing Officer and our Director of Education and Clinical Practice. Nursing's mission, vision and values, along with our patient care delivery model are presented.
Many resources are provided, and representatives from our medical staff, pharmacy, acute pain program, and infection control department present to the staff, just to name a few. This orientation program is dynamic and is intended to provide the new nurse hire with what they need to do the job on their chosen unit.
Following Nursing Orientation, staff attend computer based training class (CareVision/Sunrise Clinical Manager) and finish with precepted time orienting on their units.
