As a part of Global Safety Week (Oct. 16 – 23), Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Department of Public Safety, Skanska USA (general contractor for the Courtyard Tower) and the Sarasota County Fire Department teamed up to conduct a “confined space” rescue drill. The goal of the drill, conducted on the construction site of Sarasota Memorial’s new nine-story patient care tower, was to successfully and safely respond to an accident in which workers were trapped in a “confined space.” Also tested during the drill were scene security, traffic control, Unified Command, and communications interoperability. Participants included the Sarasota County Fire Department Special Operations Command, the SMH Public Safety “Hospital Emergency Response Team” (HERT), and the Skanska USA Safety Division.
