Sarasota Memorial is among the 50 safest hospitals and medical centers in the nation, according to Security magazine's "2010 Security 500" list, which annually recognizes organizations worldwide for best-managed security practices.
Technology was a critical issue recognized by Security this year for hospitals and medical centers. Additional factors that influenced the rankings include how organizations safeguard against workplace violence and prioritize security staffing and training, employee travel, regulatory compliance and asset protection.
In 2010, Sarasota Memorial ranked #47 of 75 health care facilities who made the list of top security programs and one of only four hospitals in Florida to earn the distinction.
“Sarasota Memorial places a high priority on keeping patients, guests, and staff safe and secure,” said Public Safety Chief Mickey Watson. “This honor is a tribute to the entire organization’s focus and support of security and safety initiatives, and in particular, the professionalism and commitment of the officers of our Public Safety Department, who diligently work around the clock to protect the health system and promote a healing environment.”
