Sarasota Memorial and the Florida Brain Tumor Association announced today the formation of a new Brain Tumor Support Group that will meet at Sarasota Memorial’s Institute for Advanced Medicine, 5880 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, on the third Tuesday of each month beginning Jan. 18, 2011. The meeting will be held in the education room on the first floor of the Institute from 7-8:30 pm.
This will be the fifth such support group the FBTA offers across the state. The FBTA conducts similar groups in Hollywood, Pompano Beach, West Palm Beach, and Ft. Myers. All the support groups are professionally facilitated and free of charge. Everyone is welcome.
The group will offer support and information to survivors, caregivers, friends and families of brain tumor patients to help them cope with the many fears and unknowns when thrust into the situation of having to deal with a brain tumor. The FBTA has a very well respected advisory board of top physicians who are willing to advise and help at any time.
From gaining valuable information on insurance, treatments, medications, side effects, and the importance of having a pro active mind set, to which institutions and doctors are best suited to deal with a particular situation, the group will offer a place to discuss concerns with many people facing the same challenges.
