What was the biggest challenge or concern that led you to decide to have weight loss surgery?
I saw myself heading down the same path as my parents and grandparents, diabetes, heart disease, impaired mobility and over all bad health. I am approaching 60 and knew that was not the way I wanted to live; I was ready for a big change and a big commitment. The time had come for me to live for me. I had taken care of my parents, raised a daughter to adulthood and wanted to take my life back.
What type of weight loss surgery did you have?
How much weight have you lost?
154 lbs at 9 months post op.
How has weight loss surgery changed your life?
I am excited and energized for the very first time since I can remember. I am now at a weight below my college freshmen days. I have more confidence and enthusiasm to try new things. I have recently moved to Dallas, Texas and started working at a corporate headquarters. No one knows me here and at first that was sort of disappointing, but since talking with Linda and Patrice at my last visit, I realized that it was a good thing. I don't talk about my weight loss, surgery or challenges, these people don't know that me, I am just Margaret the new girl. My family is still with me and supports my journey, but I realize that as I get closer to goal it is time to reap the rewards of my journey and start living the life I set out to have when I met with Dr. Nora and the team 9 months ago. If there is anyone on the fence, just do it, it will change your life.
