Diagnostic Memory Disorder Clinic
SMH Memory Disorder Clinic provides medical evaluation by a multi-disciplinary team of physicians for issues related to memory and thinking. Upon completion, a full written report is provided for both patient and primary care physician. This evaluation is generally covered by Medicare and secondary insurance.
Mild Cognitive Impairment Education & Support Group
This is a dual support group for individuals with mild cognitive impairment and their care partners. An educational guest speaker provides information for 30 minutes at the beginning of each meeting. Following the speaker, two separate groups, one for individuals with memory trouble and the other for their care partners, meet to discuss managing early symptoms of cognitive change. The group meets the 3rd Thursday of Month 9:30 a.m. at the Senior Friendship Center for Healthy Aging, Dwyer Education Room, 1900 Brother Geenen Way, Sarasota. This program is FREE. Reservations are not required.
Sarasota Caregiver Counseling and Support Program (SCSSP)
The Memory Disorder Clinic at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and JFCS are involved in a research project funded through a grant from the Administration on Aging called the Sarasota Caregiver Counseling and Support Program (SCCSP). SCCSP is a project targeting the needs of those caring for a spouse or partner with Alzheimer’s disease. This program provides a caregiving specialist to meet with you and your family over a four month period and is open to Sarasota and Manatee County residents. Participation is FREE.
MindSet – Free Class to Improve Brain Health
This class is designed for individuals with early stage memory loss and their care partners. Classes include lessons and activities to exercise your brain, create healthy habits, and improve communication. MindSet offers an organized approach to everyday living and will provide activities to stimulate memory and thinking. The research-based exercises learned can be used at home and are designed to help individuals function better in everyday life. Classes consist of 6 sessions and will be held throughout the year at a variety of locations in Sarasota County. A brief pre-screening test is required to qualify. This program is FREE.
FREE Memory Screenings
15 minute screening tests are completed by trained staff. The results are provided in writing at the completion of the screening test. Free screenings are held monthly in Sarasota and Venice.
