Memory Clinic Services

Diagnostic Memory Evaluation
The Memory Disorder Clinic provides consultation, evaluation, and diagnosis for persons with memory loss.   A multi-disciplinary team, including a geriatrician, neurologist, and neuropsychologists from the community, review all cases to offer the most accurate diagnosis possible.  The Memory Disorder Clinic clinical team produces a written report detailing the evaluation and outcome. A meeting is scheduled with the family so that a Memory Disorder Clinic physician and community service expert can explain the diagnosis and make recommendations for care.  Out of town family can often be included in this meeting by phone conference. Test results are explained in detail and time is taken to answer questions and help everyone understand the diagnosis.  Specific recommendations regarding organizing care, and referrals to local resources are discussed at that time.   The written report is sent to the primary care physician.  Copies are also made available to the patient and family.

Mild Cognitive Impairment Education & Support Groups
These monthly groups provide support and education for both the patient diagnosed with mild changes in memory & thinking, and their loved ones.  An educational speaker provides a short presentation on a topic or service and answers questions.  Following the speaker, the group is separated into two rooms – one for those with memory trouble and one for their partners (friends or family). The groups discuss issues related to the early signs of memory and thinking problems that can cause fear and frustration.  The groups meet in Sarasota on the 3rd Thursday at 9:30 AM at the Senior Friendship Center for Healthy Aging, Dwyer Education Room, 1900 Brother Geenen Way, in Venice 1st Wednesday at 9:30 AM, Jacaranda Trace, 3600 William Penn Way, in Manatee on the 2nd Tuesday  at 9:30 at the Roskamp Institute 2040 Whitfield Ave. Participation is free.

Free Memory Screenings
Free 15 minute screenings are scheduled monthly in Sarasota and Venice.  The screenings are completed by trained staff and the results are provided in writing at the time of the testing.  Appointments are required. (941) 917-7197
