The Cape Surgery Center opened its doors in 1985 as the result of a generous gift in memory of Helen S. Cape.

Cape Outpatient Surgery Center is a same-day surgical center; a medical facility where certain elective surgical procedures are performed and patients return home the same day. An estimated 50 to 60 percent of all surgery can be performed in same-day surgical facilities. Outpatient surgery is a planned elective surgery; non-emergency surgery, which your doctor has recommended and you have chosen.

Here, at the Cape Outpatient Surgery Center, your surgery will be performed by medical specialists in a state-of-the-art facility located next door to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the region’s premier medical center.

Although ambulatory surgery is commonplace today, the Cape remains the community leader as a multi-specialty center for outpatient surgery. Frequent procedures include: cataract surgery, hernia surgeries, many types of biopsies, pediatric surgeries including tonsillectomies and the insertion of tubes in the ears, certain gynecological procedures, cosmetic surgery, many orthopedic procedures, podiatry procedures and excision of skin cancers.

Patient volume breaks out at 26% for Ophthalmology, General Surgery 16%, GYN 18%, Orthopedic 17%, and Misc. 23%. All physicians who use the Cape must have passed a rigorous credentialing process and hold active hospital admitting privileges at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The Anesthesiology Department at Cape Outpatient Surgery Center provides the same high levels of care, experience, equipment and patient monitoring found in Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s operating suites. Your anesthesia will be administered by expert anesthesia personnel.
