As with all patient rooms in the new bed tower, private rooms are designed to evoke the feeling of home, with flooring and cabinetry in warm wood tones, softer lighting, flat screen TVs, and ceramic-tiled bathrooms. For family and visitors, an in-room couch effortlessly converts to a double bed. Expansive windows invite healing natural light inside. Private rooms (like all rooms) include sinks with motion-activated towels so care-givers need not leave and re-enter rooms to wash hands. All rooms also include 'proximity cabinets' for easy electronic patient charting and secured medication storage.
Sarasota Memorial respects patients' privacy to the fullest extent in the design of its new semi-private rooms. In each room, the two patient beds are situated adjacently, rather than side-by-side, allowing greater separation between them. A shared large bathroom is in the middle. Each patient enjoys a private entrance, separate window, flat-screen TV, and separate storage. Privacy curtains not only divide the room, but can also provide a divider between each patient and his or her visitors, so they do not have to leave the room for routine care by hospital staff. When occupied by a single patient, the other half of the room is converted to a large family area.
New labor and delivery suites celebrate the momentous occasion of birth with fully appointed spacious accommodations, much-desired privacy, and state-of-the-art equipment for the safety and comfort of mother and baby. Striker® overhead lighting for delivery and warming beds for the newborn are just some of the special touches included to enhance the experience. Suites feature ample room for family, extra counter space and storage areas, and extra-large tiled bathroom with walk-in shower. The new bed tower includes 12 labor/delivery suites, plus two specially equipped for C-section deliveries.
For more than 30 years, Sarasota Memorial's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has cared for critically ill newborns and the smallest of premature babies. New NICU rooms are designed to fully involve parents in the care and recovery of their infants. Giraffe® Omnibeds provide the ultimate safe environment for baby, clear views and easy access for parents. Reclining chairs invite parents to spend time in the unit. In-room sinks ensure only the cleanest hands handle babies. Windows in each room give babies their first introduction to the outside world. Safety and security features include secure elevator and floor access 24/7 and one nurses station per two NICUs. The station features aquarium-style glass that enables the duty nurse to monitor both stations simultaneously.
