DIGITAL IMAGING

All of our imaging centers are completely digital, equipped with the latest technology and linked with a secure digital network, so no matter which location you choose, your doctor and the specialists involved in your care have 24/7 access to view your results from their office or home.

Sarasota Memorial offers a complete spectrum of radiology tests and diagnostic studies. All of our imaging tests are conducted by highly trained radiology technologists and nurses, and read by board-certified radiologists. For information on frequently ordered tests, click on the test name(s) below.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging test that shows soft tissue organs that do not contain air, gas, or bowel. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves. Unlike most imaging techniques we do not use radiation. Ultrasound can be used to look at the liver, breast, kidneys, pelvic organs, and of course, unborn babies.

Computerized Tomography (CT)
A Computerized Tomography (CT) scan is a special X-ray that takes pictures of the inside of your body. A narrow X-ray beam moves around a section of your body. A picture is taken quickly and fed into a computer. The images it produces are "cross-sectional"-patterned much like slices of bread. A series of these pictures is made to focus on the body part(s) your doctor needs to see. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) MRI, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, is one of the safest, most comfortable ways for physicians to obtain clear, detailed pictures of the inside of the human body without the use of X-rays, surgery or biopsy. A magnetic field combined with radio waves will produce computerized pictures of your body.

Digital Mammography
Sarasota Memorial's digital mammography system uses advanced breast-scanning technology to produce the highest quality image with the lowest possible dose of radiation – up to 60 percent less than older analog mammography systems.

Bone Densitometry
Bone Densitometry testing is the most accurate way to measure the density of your bones. The test is fast, safe, painless and non-invasive – (in most cases, you'll be in and out in just minutes).

PET/CT Scan
The PET/CT scan offers the electronic fusion of CT and PET images on the same scanner. This technology allows for direct visual comparison of two different data sets. In other words, it shows how the organs look and how they are working. Traditional medical tests like CT scans show the physical structure of your body in great detail. A PET scan examines your body's chemistry, giving your physician valuable information about how your body is functioning.
