Study
Examines Investigational Treatment for Alzheimer's
Now Enrolling ...
The
Memory Disorder Clinic and
Clinical Research Center at Sarasota Memorial Hospital are now
enrolling
people in a research trial of an investigational medication for Alzheimer’s
treatment. This investigational medication attacks Alzheimer’s from a new
direction. Current treatments target either the acetylcholine pathway (drugs
like donepezil) or the glutamate pathway (memantine) to stimulate brain
function. The investigational drug, Lecozotan, works to boost brain function
by attacking a blocking pathway that reduces brain function by both the
donepezil and memantine pathways. To be eligible for this research trial,
participants must have mild or moderate Alzheimer’s disease, with no strokes
or other nervous system diseases. They also may not have taken a
cholinesterase inhibitor (Aricept-like drugs) and
stopped
it due to side effects or no effect from a maximum dose. If you think you or
a loved one would be eligible and want to enroll in this investigational
research study, call the hospital’s Memory Disorder Clinic at (941)
917-7197. |
