Stella's Story
Before and After StellaWhat was the biggest challenge or concern that led you to decide to have weight loss surgery?

I had tried every diet known to man; had varying degrees of weight loss with all the weight gained back plus more. I needed an additional restriction that only surgery could give me.  I did not consider surgery lightly.  My physical health was suffering as well as my self-esteem and confidence.  I was thoroughly miserable.

What type of weight loss surgery did you have?
I had adjustable gastric banding with a Lap band on 3/23/11.

How much weight have you lost?
I have lost 85 lbs.

How has weight loss surgery changed your life?
I feel so much healthier... I exercise and enjoy it, I am off my blood pressure medications, I no longer obsess about food.  I am happier, much more confident, and energetic. My self-esteem is wonderful, especially when clothes shopping.  And Lastly I have changed career direction and have joined SMH Comprehensive Bariatric program as program coordinator because I totally believe in this program and want to use my experience to motivate others with obesity struggles.

Jimmy's Before & AfterJimmy's Story
What was the biggest challenge or concern that led you to decide to have weight loss surgery?
I feel my biggest challenge was just making the decision to call and make the commitment to making the trips down to your office. My greatest concern was if I didn't do something I was going to shorten my lifespan! I must say the first 2 weeks it was pure hell getting used to a new way of eating but it was the best thing I've done for myself.

What type of weight loss surgery did you have?
I had the lap band surgery done.

How much weight have you lost?
Right now I have lost 95 lbs. I was up to as much as 103 lbs. lost the last Time I saw Dr. Stevens but I've put a few pounds back on and I don't Like it!    I've worked too hard and feel too good to not keep progressing.

How has weight loss surgery changed your life?
I feel I've been "reborn"! I feel and people tell me I look great! Jimmy looks forward to each day!

Peg's Before & AfterPeg's Story
What was the biggest challenge or concern that led you to decide to have weight loss surgery?

I saw myself heading down the same path as my parents and grandparents, diabetes, heart disease, impaired mobility and over all bad health. I am approaching 60 and knew that was not the way I wanted to live; I was ready for a big change and a big commitment. The time had come for me to live for me. I had taken care of my parents, raised a daughter to adulthood and wanted to take my life back.

What type of weight loss surgery did you have?
Gastric Bypass

How much weight have you lost?
154 lbs at 9 months post op.

How has weight loss surgery changed your life?
I am excited and energized for the very first time since I can remember. I am now at a weight below my college freshmen days. I have more confidence and enthusiasm to try new things. I have recently moved to Dallas, Texas and started working at a corporate headquarters. No one knows me here and at first that was sort of disappointing, but since talking with Linda and Patrice at my last visit, I realized that it was a good thing. I don't talk about my weight loss, surgery or challenges, these people don't know that me, I am just Margaret the new girl. My family is still with me and supports my journey, but I realize that as I get closer to goal it is time to reap the rewards of my journey and start living the life I set out to have when I met with Dr. Nora and the team 9 months ago. If there is anyone on the fence, just do it, it will change your life.

The idea of losing over 100 pounds was overwhelming.  After a lifetime of failing at diets and trying to exercise the weight off, I decided it was time for some help.

What type of weight loss surgery did you have?
Gastric Bypass

How much weight have you lost?
At 12 months out, I have lost 95 pounds.

How has weight loss surgery changed your life?
My weight does not define me and food does not control me.  I feel better, I look better, people respond to me differently, and my self-confidence is better. Getting dressed and shopping are fun and not a dreaded chore.  I now eat to live and I don’t miss one thing about my old life!
